An Outing to Chicago! ...(Beef and Dogs)

Yesterday afternoon, I saw my friend Aimee's posting on FB. It was a picture of her brother with a butter cookie around each finger. Being that is was lunchtimeish, I got hungry, then got a wild hair to head down to where those cookies are, and that would be at Chicago Style Beef and Dogs. They are located at 6680 W. Colfax in Lakewood. My fabulous friends, Dianne and Luanne Zimmerman own the joint. As you might guess they are native to Chicago, and they opened it so they could bring home to Colorado. I met Dianne at COTM. We both started going around the same time and she, like me, was blackmailed into teaching Sunday School in order to get our kids in to the very full classes. So, we both assistant taught our first year, then we both spent the next 10 or so years teaching 4th grade (me the 8:00 am, and she the 9:15). She has 2 great kids, one of whom I taught in 4th grade, the other I got to know in youth group.
So, Dianne and I got to talk for quite awhile. It was so great to have some time to catch up. Being ill for an extended period of time is detrimental to friendship. It is very difficult for the person who is ill to maintain friendships for various reasons, and others cannot be expected to focus on you when they have their own full lives to live. So when I have an opportunity like the one yesterday, I give thanks to God for that opportunity and do what is in my power to take advantage. I will have another opportunity to see them next Thursday for Aimee's Karaoke Birthday Bash. I am really excited, because I have never sung karaoke and it's on my bucket list, yay! I just hope they have songs in LOW keys, because if you know me, you know I am the polar opposite of a singer, let alone a soprano (-: . Best of all, the party is in walking distance, yay! I am grateful that I had this opportunity yesterday. I am looking forward to re-connecting with other friends in the future.
